Octomore Edition:14.1 Super Heavily Peated (128,9 ppm) /59,6%/ – The Octomore brand was introduced in 2008 and immediately earned cult status. It is the word peatiest single malt with phenols’ content in malt varying from 80 to 200ppm. In 2015 a barrier of 250ppm was broken with a release Octomore 06.3 distilled from barely malted to the specification of 258ppm. Two years later, the 300ppm level was crossed. Octomore has been released on annual basis, and demand always exceeds supply many times over. The 14th Series was launched in the summer of 2023 and consisted of three expressions. The first one, 14:1, comprises whisky distilled in 2017 from the 2016 harvest of 100% Scottish mainland grown Concerto barley, malted to phenol specification of 128.9ppm. The whisky was aged exclusively in first fill American oak ex-bourbon barrels and bottled at 59.6% abv.
Nose: smoke and soot, smoked vanilla, toffee, caramel, coconut flakes, lemon cake, traces of pine needles, and a drop of tar.
Palate: peat smoke, vanilla cream, honey, caramel, pears, green apples, gooseberries, Mirabelle jam, mocha, hints of nutmeg and clove, and charred oak.
Finish: medium long, smoky, with notes of vanilla, butterscotch, orange peel, peaches, sea salt, and oak.
