Kavalan Solist, Rum Cask /57,8%/ – The Kavalan brand debuted in 2008 and literarily took whisky world by the storm. The whisky is produced at Yuan Shan Distillery built in 2005/2006 in the city of Yuanshan, in the Northern part of Taiwan. The hot and humid conditions accelerate the aging process but also increase angel’s share up to 12% annually. The Solist range, consisting of single cask whiskies aged in various types of wood was launched in the late 2009. The Solist presented here was distilled in November 2011 and aged in ex-rum cask # M 111104032A then bottled at natural strength of 57.8% abv in August 2019 with an outrun of 153 bottles.
Nose: sweet, with lots of honey and burnt sugar, golden syrup, vanilla cream, nougat, pineapple, papaya dash of white pepper and toasted oak.
Palate: honey-roasted nuts, passion fruit, papaya, honeydew melon, sultanas, vanilla, caramel sauce, candied ginger, hints of cinnamon and clove.
Finish: medium long and sweet, with notes of vanilla, crème brûlée, tropical fruits and spices.
