Glen Grant 25 years old (D.1964, B.1990) Signatory Vintage /46%/
Signatory Vintage founded in 1988 by Andrew and Brian Symington is one of the leading independent whisky bottling companies. Not too many people remember that the Symingtons started with only £100,000 and within the first five years were close to bankruptcy more than once. The name ‘Signatory’ derived from the fact, that the Symingtons initial intention was to find someone famous to sign the labels for bottles produced from one single cask. The first cask they purchased was 1968 Glenlivet, which they bottled and sold long before they could find a famous person. Here we have Glen Grant distilled on November 16, 1964 and aged in sherry casks 10717-10719 for 25 years, then bottled at 46% abv in February 1990. Only 1300 bottles were produced.
Nose: rich and elegant, sherry, marzipan, black cherries, dried figs, rum-soaked raisins, roasted chestnuts, grilled asparagus, moist leaves, hints of peat and camphor.
Palate: dark chocolate, bitter orange marmalade, toffee, black tea, prunes, licorice, fennel, nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, thyme and sherried oak.
Finish: long, with notes of dark chocolate, espresso, crème brûlée, licorice, tobacco, leather and sherried oak.
