The GlenDronach 47 years old (D.1968 B.2016) Single Cask #5837 /45,9%/
Where were you in 1968? Quite a few of today’s whisky drinkers were still waiting for a stork, however the founder of our beloved Dom Whisky was around, making a lot of noise while calling for a fresh diaper.
Sean Connery has already five times personified one of our favorite characters, James Bond, while the latest impersonator, Daniel Craig, was just born. And this can go on and on. There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that 47 years old expression was a true jewel in Batch # 13 of GlenDronach Single Cask Series, according to the distillery statement the oldest GlenDronach in their warehouse. Cask no. 5837, ex-Pedro Ximénez sherry hogshead, was filled on September 24, 1968. After 47 years of tolls taken by greedy angels 301 bottles survived with alcohol content reduced by celestials to 45.9%.
Nose: intense, full-bodied aromas of dark treacle, sour plums and rich prune syrup combine with fragrant herbal notes and faint cigar smoke.
Palate: an impactful sherried character laden with dark prunes and molasses. A torrent of vibrant orange bitters and dark espresso holds intriguing hints of eucalyptus and pine needles.
