Glenfarclas 50 years old (2022 Release) /50%/
Glenfarclas, founded 1836, is the oldest family-owned distillery in Speyside. It has been owned and operated by the Grant family since 1865. The Grants had more than one offer from potential buyers in recent years but they were all politely declined. The year 2022 was very important in the family history – Glenfarclas was named Distiller of the Year at the Icon of Whisky Awards and launched 50 years old expression to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of chairman John Grant five decades in the whisky industry. In our knowledge it is the third release of 50 years old Glenfarclas following 2016 and 2019 limited editions. The sherry casks for the 2022 release were selected by distillery manager Callum Fraser and managing director Douglas Belford; the whisky is bottled at 50% abv and presented in Glencairn bottle resting in elegant display case. Only 836 highly collectible bottles were produced. (Official tasting note.)
Nose: the malt offers marzipan, almond and cedar wood, with a sweet smoky hint giving way to stewed apples and dark chocolate.
Taste: on the palate, the rich velvety dark chocolate notes lead to flavors of treacle toffee, mixed peel and slightly smoky, sweet taste, surprisingly mellow for a single malt of this age.
Finish: the flavors coat the mouth and provide a gentle, smooth finish, which lingers for a long time
