Ardbeg’s whiskies are famous for their rich, peaty and smoky depths. However whisky aficionados are well aware that the spirit is capable of revealing a somewhat subtler, more complex style of flavor. The content of cask # 10 was distilled under watchful eye of dr. Bill Lumsden on January 10, 2000. The spirit has been fully matured in first fill bourbon barrel, specifically chosen to help accentuate more complex, fruity elements of Ardbeg distillate, resulting in a truly luscious dram. The whisky reached its peak in June 2020 and was bottled at natural strength of 46.7% abv without chill filtration. The barrel produced 179 bottles. (Official tasting note by dr. Bill Lumsden.)
Nose: beautifully fragrant with an impression of freshly zested lemon and tropical pineapple fruit. A touch of pink jasmine follows with classic Ardbeg notes of fennel and pine needles, while creamy vanilla custard emerges. A light hint of antiseptic smoke and smoldering charcoal are subtly interwoven with a basket of fruits and flowers in this amazing bouquet.
Palate: an unexpected mouthfeel, zesty yet creamy. Succulent flavor of Neroli orange blossom, lemon balm and sweet honeysuckle led to smoky bonfires and sweet and salted caramel popcorn. White peppercorns and aniseed lend spiciness. The aftertaste is long but mellow. More citrus emerges in this sooty, smoky finish.
