Elijah Craig 12 years old Small Batch Barrel Proof (Batch No. A120) /68,3%/ – Heaven Hill Distillery launched Elijah Craig Bourbon in 1986. The bourbon is named after reverend Elijah Craig, arguably the creator of bourbon, as we know it (he is credited as the first distiller to age his whiskey in charred oak barrels).
Elijah Craig 12 years old was considered by many as a brand with high quality to value ratio. The barrel proof edition debuted in the fall of 2013 and is being released three to four times a year ever since. n 2017 Elijah Craig Barrel Proof was named the whiskey of the year by “Whiskey Advocate”.
Nose: lots of caramel, maple syrup, honey, vanilla, cotton candy, cinnamon, cloves, baked apples, cocoa powder and charred oak.
Palate: caramel, coffee syrup, dark chocolate, toffee, roasted peanuts, black cherries, prunes, dash of pepper and cinnamon, hints of hay and oak.
Finish: long, with notes of caramel, charred oak, tobacco, vanilla, dried fruits and dark chocolate.
