New whiskies for tasting in Jastrzębia Góra

Bruichladdich Distillery The Laddie Eight, 8 years old / 50%We have been flooded lately with no age statement whiskies, usually released under tongue-breaking Gaelic names, thus Bruichladdich The Laddie Eight truly stands out. Instead of stories and legends it carries old-fashioned age statement, we know that the youngest component in the bottle is 8 years old. The whisky was aged in European and American oak barrels and bottled at pretty generous 50% abv. The Laddie Eight debuted in the spring of 2016 as part of Travel Retail range.

Nose: light and fresh, with delicate mineral notes, green apples, grapefruits, hay, dried flowers, lemon peel, vanilla, honey, touch of ginger and a whiff of sea breeze.

Palate: fresh, malty and grassy, apples, peaches, vanilla, lemon grass, fennel, notes of pepper and ginger, seaweed salad and delicate citrusy note.

Finish: medium long, with notes of vanilla, honey, orchard fruits and hints of oak and sea salt.

Bruichladdich Distillery Islay Barley 2010 / 50% – Bruichladdich Islay Barley was introduced in the late 2011 as a forerunner of Uber Provenance range. The bottlings released until 2015 have come from pockets around Islay but the fifth, 2017 edition, have been produced and distilled from “the consolidation of harvest from eight farms across the breadth of Islay”, what makes it the first regional Islay release. The whiskey was distilled in the early 2010 from barley planted the previous year (varieties Oxbridge and Optic) on eight farms: Coull, Cruach, Dunlossit, Island, Mulindry, Rockside, Starchmill and Sunderland. It was matured predominantly in first fill ex-bourbon barrels with a little addition of French wine casks.

Nose: floral and coastal, dune grass, sea breeze, peaches, gooseberries, apples, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, white pepper and hints of toasted oak.

Palate: clean and fresh, breakfast cereals, vanilla, toffee, nougat, lemon grass, apples, grapefruits, hints of pepper, ginger and oak.

Finish: fairly long, vanilla, orange and lemon peels, apples and a whiff of sea breeze.
