Caol Ila 2011 Vintage (B.2017), 6yo The Clan Denny / 48%/Caol Ila (“Sound of Islay” in Gaelic) was founded in 1846 and after an upgrade completed in 2011 is the biggest distillery on the island with the distilling capacity of 6.5 million liters of spirit per annum. The brand popularity is steadily growing with annual global sales reaching 600 000 bottles. The young expression of Caol Ila presented here, part of the Clan Denny range, comprises whisky distilled in February 2011 and aged in refill hogshead no. 12090. Bottled at 48% abv and without chill-filtration in August 2017 with an outrun of 415 bottles. The Clan Denny range is marketed by Douglas McGibbon & Co., subsidiary of Douglas Laing & Co.
Nose: fresh and clean, malted barley, peat smoke, sea breeze, vanilla, lemons, white pepper and hints of hay.
Palate: peaty and briny, green apples, gooseberries, breakfast cereals, buttered toast, dash of pepper and delicate grassy and mineral notes.
Finish: medium long, smoky and ashy, see breeze, vanilla, hints of pepper and licorice.
