Port Askaig 15 years old, Sherry Cask / 45,8% / – It is named after the port on the Isle of Islay located very close to Caol Ila Distillery. The company does not disclose, which distillery (or distilleries) supplies whisky for Port Askaig brand we are almost certain that among them are Caol Ila and Bunnahabhain. Each expression within the range is bottled in small batches, always at natural color and without chill-filtration. Port Askaig 15 years old is a vatting of peated whisky from 1997 (20%) and fruitier spirit from 2001 (80%) all matured in first fill Oloroso sherry butts. Only 5000 bottles were produced.
Nose: distinctive sherry and smoky notes, sea breeze, dark chocolate, toffee, hazelnuts, blackberries, apricots, violet liquor and fading hint of sulphur.
Palate: pretty soft, dried apricots, orange peel, toffee, candied ginger, cloves, dash of pepper, pinch of salt, licorice and distant whiffs of smoke.
Finish: long, smoky and ashy, dark chocolate with sea salt, vanilla, dried fruit, herbal spice and oak.
