Jura Whisky 18 years old Red Wine Cask Finish /44%/ – In the spring of 2018 Jura Distillery replaced the existing range with completely new line-up expressing a new flavor direction for the brand. The new signature style combines subtle smoke with sweetness from ex-bourbon barrels and various casks have been employed for finishing maturation. The highlight of the new range is 18 years old expression, whisky distilled predominantly from unpeated malt with a little addition of peated malt and aged for 18 years in American oak barrels before being finished in red wine casks. Jura Distillery produces 2.3 million liters of spirit per annum, of which about 10% is distilled from barley malted to specification of 50ppm.
Nose: subtle smoky notes, sour grapes, red berries, raisins, walnuts, caramel, vanilla, dash of cinnamon, licorice, leather and touch of tobacco.
Palate: mixed berries marmalade, lemons, blood oranges, raisins, vanilla, salted caramel, candied ginger, pepper, oak and distant whiff of smoke.
Finish: fairly long, with notes of dark berries, caramel, cinnamon, pepper, hints of oak and peat.
