Glenallachie 12 years old (D.2009, B.2022) Signatory Vintage /66,4%/ – Signatory Vintage, founded by Andrew and Brian Symington in 1988, is one of the leading independent whisky bottling companies. Not many remember today that the Symingtons started with only £100,000 and within the first five years were close to bankruptcy more than once. The name ‘Signatory’ derived from the fact, that the Symingtons initial intention was to find someone famous to sign the labels for bottles produced from one single cask. The first cask they purchased was 1968 Glenlivet, which they bottled and sold long before they could find a famous person. Here is Glenallachie distilled on November 17, 2009, aged in first fill sherry butt # 900851 for 12 years, then bottled at natural strength of 66.4% abv on September 15, 2022 as part of Cask Strength Collection. The butt produced 636 bottles.
Nose: sherry, dark chocolate, toffee, honey, coffee beans, plums, black cherries, dried figs, nutmeg, black pepper, hints of tobacco, and leather.
Palate: chocolate-coated hazelnuts, toffee, buckwheat honey, caramel, mixed dark berries, cinnamon, pepper, nutmeg, hints of licorice, and sherried oak.
Finish: fairly long, with notes of dark chocolate, toffee, honey, licorice, black pepper, and sherried oak.
