Scapa 1993 (Bottled 2010) Gordon & MacPhail /40%/ – Scapa Distillery has been producing whisky since 1885 but it had to wait over 120 years to gain international recognition. It is said that the locals choose Scapa malt over much more popular Highland Park but one of the reasons might be fact that for years Orkney was the only place Scapa was available. The distillery was mothballed in ruinous state in 1994 and operated few weeks a year by workers of Highland Park. The turning point came in 2005 with Chivas Bros taking over the ownership and starting the refurbishment program. For decades Scapa whisky has been bottled by Gordon & MacPhail as part of the Distillery Labels range and the Independent Bottler can take full credit for today’s brand popularity. The 2010 release comprises Scapa distilled in 1993 and aged in refill sherry hogsheads.
