Oban 10 years old, Diageo Special Release 2022 /57,1%/ –
Special Releases is a limited edition range of whiskies released each fall by Diageo. The series was introduced in 2002 and highlights the best and the rarest malt and grain whiskies from the company portfolio bottled at natural strength. The 2022 release featured seven single malts (Mortlach NAS, Oban 10 years old, Talisker 11 years old, Clynelish 12 years old, Lagavulin 12 years old, The Singleton of Glen Ord 15 years old, Cardhu 16 years old), and one single grain whisky, Cameron Bridge 26 years old. Oban 10 years old was originally aged in first fill and refill American oak casks, then finished in Amontillado sherry seasoned casks. The whisky was bottled at natural strength of 57.1% abv without chill-filtration.
Nose: sweet and fruity, apples, oranges, cherries, dried figs, sultanas, toffee, vanilla, milk chocolate, brown sugar, and distant whiff of sea breeze.
Palate: milk chocolate, vanilla cream, toffee, plums, blood oranges, cherries, pears, licorice, cardamom, white pepper, and a pinch of salt.
Finish: fairly long, with notes of toffee, apples, pears, white pepper, hints of aniseed and oak.
