New scotch for tasting in Warsaw


Benriach 2009 Cask Edition, 12 years old Port Pipe Cask #4834 /59,8%/ – In 2016 Brown-Forman Corporation purchased BenRiach Distillery Company and their three distilleries – BenRiach, GlenDronach and GlenGlassaugh. In the past the Americans tried to acquire different Scottish assets, John Dewar & Sons (1998) and Glenmorangie plc (2004) but they were outbid by Bacardi Ltd. and Moët Hennessy respectively. On March 1, 2017 Billy Walker bid final farewell to BenRiach and Rachel Barrie took over his post. She has been doing excellent job so far following the Billy Walker’s path and selecting casks for individual bottling. BenRiach 2009 Peated spent 12 years in ex-port pipe # 4834 and was bottled at natural strength of 59.8% abv in 2021 exclusively for La Maison du Whisky. The cask yielded 766 bottles.

Nose: lots of berries, cherries, strawberries, raspberries, dark chocolate, freshly roasted coffee beans, honey, vanilla, toffee, hints of nutmeg and whiff of smoke.
Palate: espresso, dark chocolate, toffee apples, mixed berries marmalade, orange peel, toffee, dash of pepper and aniseed and peat smoke.
Finish: pretty long, with notes od dark chocolate, coffee, forest berries, pepper, nutmeg and distant whiff of smoke.
