Bowmore 18 years old, Deep & Complex Aston Martin Edition /43%/ – In 2019 Bowmore Distillery and Aston Martin Lagonda Holdings decided to partner in order to create exclusive bottlings and experiences. The initial bottling, Black Bowmore DB5 1964 was released in 2020 and immediately caught collectors’ attention (only 27 bottles were created). The following year the companies unveiled their first range, exclusively for Travel Retail – the new designs created by Aston Martin for Bowmore’s existing 10-, 15- and 18 years old expressions. Bowmore 18 years old Deep & Complex is dedicated to the iconic Aston Martin DB Mark III, a model sold from 1957 to 1959 (James Bond drives that model in the novel version of “Goldfinger”). The whisky used in that creation was aged in both Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks for a minimum of 18 years.
Nose: smooth and sweet with restrained peaty notes, bitter orange marmalde, black cherries, gooseberries, walnuts, raisins, coffee beans and hints of damp wool.
Palate: slightly oily, with delicate smoky notes, chocolate-coated raisins, mixed nuts, toffee, blood oranges, plums and a pinch of salt.
Finish: fairly long and warming, with notes of bitter orange marmalade, raisins, dash of salt and pepper and distant whiff of smoke.
