Elements of Islay Port Charlotte Pl6 /55,3%/ – The Elements of Islay is a range of single malt and blended malt whiskies created in honor of the legendary Isle of Islay. It was introduced by London based Specialty Drinks Ltd in 2008 and new bottlings are released several times a year. The Elements of Islay are bottled at natural strength, without chill-filtration and without age statement, either as a single cask or in small batches of up to 20 casks from a single distillery. The name of each bottling brings to mind Mendeleev’s Periodic Table, kind of chemical symbol of the distillery name followed by a number of subsequent releases. Pl6, the sixth expression of Port Charlotte was distilled in 2011 at Bruichladdich Distillery and aged in three ex-bourbon barrels for over 7 years. Bottled at 55.3% abv in 2019 with an outrun of 1163 bottles.
Nose: bonfire smoke, wet pebbles and sand, flax seed, fresh herbs, vanilla, peaches, roasted nuts, whiffs of sea breeze and oak.
Palate: slightly oily, smoked bacon, nectarines, orange marmalade, salted almonds, hints of cinnamon and cloves and cigar ash.
Finish: pretty long, with notes of peat smoke, vanilla, pepper, ginger, licorice, oak and cigar ash.
