Octomore 5 years old, Edition:13.3 Super Heavily Peated (129,3 ppm) /61,1% – The Octomore brand was introduced in 2008 and immediately earned cult status. It is the word peatiest single malt with phenols’ content varying from 80 to 200ppm. In 2015 a barrier of 250ppm was broken with a release Octomore 06.3 distilled from barely malted to the specification of 258ppm. Two years later, the 300ppm level was crossed. Octomore has been released on an annual basis, and demand always exceeds supply many times over. The 13th Series was launched in the fall of 2022 and consisted of three expressions. The final one, 13:3, comprises whisky distilled in 2016 from the 2015 harvest of 100% Octomore Farm-grown Concerto barley, malted to phenol specification of 129.3ppm. The whisky was aged in a combination of first fill American oak casks and second fill European oak casks sourced from the Rivesaltes region in France and the Ribera del Duero region of Spain.
Nose: smoky and fruity, malted barley, apples, apricots, gooseberries, honeydew melon, eucalyptus, geranium, marzipan, ginger cookies, and hints of potpourri.
Palate: peat smoke, malted barley, honey, caramel, marzipan, candied lemon peels, coconut flakes, nougat, digestive biscuits, toasted oak and hints of cigar ash.
Finish: long, sweet and smoky, with notes of honey, marzipan, candied citrus peels, peaches, pears and oak.
