Glentauchers 2004 (Bottled 2018) Gordon & MacPhail Whisky Distillery Labels /43%/ – In the spring of 2018 family owned whisky specialist Gordon & MacPhail (founded 1895) announced cutting their whisky portfolio down from 14 whisky ranges to five. Fortunately ‘Distillery Labels’ range has not been phased out. “For more than a century Gordon & MacPhail has been entrusted with new-make sprit from more that 100 Scottish distilleries to mature in their way, using casks made to their exacting specifications. The Distillery Labels range is a celebration of this long-standing and unique relationship.” Glentauchers 2004 was aged in refill American oak hogsheads and added to the range in 2018. Nose: dry meadow grasses mix with beeswax polish aromas. Sweetness evolves with time: white chocolate and vanilla pod mingles with fresh pear and green apple.
Palate: a tropical fruit celebration; melon, kiwi, ripe nectarine and grapefruit flavors each take a turn in the limelight. Warming pepper develops, opening into drying cocoa powder.
Finish: medium in length; toasted oak comes to the fore.
