Probably Orkney’s Finest (¿Highland Park?) 16-letni (D.2003, B.2019) Douglas Laing’s Old Particular /48,4%/ – The Old Particular range was introduced in September 2013 by Fred Laing, soon after he parted ways with his brother and business partner Stewart splitting portfolio of Douglas Laing & Co. Old Particular is an equivalent of Old Malt Cask series, now part of Hunter Laing & Co. portfolio, and consists of single cask expressions of single malt and single grain whiskies sourced from all over Scotland. Probably Orkney’s Finest was distilled in May 2003 at (Highland Park Distillery?) and aged in refill hogshead no. DL 13371. Bottled at 48.4% abv without chill-filtration in May 2019 with an outrun of 371 bottles.
Nose: sea breeze, wet pebbles, honey, vanilla, butter cookies, orange and lemon peel, touch of oak and distant whiff of smoke.
Palate: vanilla, toffee, salted caramel, apples, gooseberries, lemon curd, hints of nutmeg and lemon grass and delicate smokiness in the background.
Finish: medium long with notes of vanilla, honey, apples, peaches, dash of mixed spice and a wisp of smoke.
