Bunnahabhain Moine Brandy Finish / 55,3% – However Bunnahabhain Distillery has not been associated with smoky and peaty spirit, in the late 1990s it started using peated malt for limited runs, mainly to be used as a component of Black Bottle blend. The peated version of Bunnahabhain debuted in 2004 as Mòine, which means ‘Peated’ in the Gaelic. In recent years few expressions of this smoky whisky was launched, including very interesting Oloroso and Marsala finish. In 2017 Brandy Finish joined the pack. The whisky distilled in 2004 was aged in refill sherry casks for ten years, then transferred into ex-brandy casks for additional three years. Bottled at natural strength of 55.3% abv and without chill-filtration with an outrun of 4152 bottles.
Nose: quite powerful, peat smoke, tobacco, burnt bread crust, apples, grapes, plums, honey-roasted nuts, licorice, touch of aniseed and oak.
Palate: great balanced of sweetness and smokiness, plums, raisins, black cherries, black tea, tobacco and waves of peat smoke.
Finish: fairly long, with notes of peat smoke, salted nuts, hints of licorice and pepper and a whiff of sea breeze.
