Hazelburn 9 years old, Barolo Cask Matured / 57,9% – Hazelburn (named after Campbeltown distillery closed in 1925) is one of the three brands of single malt produced at Springbank Distillery. The whisky is triple distilled from unpeated malt. It was introduced in 2005 and its supply is strictly limited (only about 15 000 liters are distilled annually). Here we have a very interesting release from the fall of 2016. The whisky distilled in June 2007 spent 6 years in fresh bourbon casks and additional 3 years in ex-Barolo casks, which had previously held standard Springbank whisky. (Barolo is made from the Nebbiolo grape in Piedmont region). The whisky was bottled at natural strength of 57.9% abv with an outrun of 10800 bottles.
Nose: fruity and slightly floral, peaches, pineapples, grapes, sugar-coated almonds, candied lemon peel and touch of wild flowers.
Palate: sweet, vanilla, coconut shavings, apple pie sprinkled with cinnamon, peaches, milk chocolate, white pepper and subtle note of wood tannins.
Finish: long, fruit salad, vanilla, cinnamon and touch of pepper.
