Mortlach 15 years old (D.2007, B.2022) Signatory Vintage /51,8%/ – Signatory Vintage, founded by Andrew and Brian Symington in 1988, is one of the leading independent whisky bottling companies. Not many remember today that the Symingtons started with only £100,000 and within the first five years were close to bankruptcy more than once. The name ‘Signatory’ derived from the fact, that the Symingtons initial intention was to find someone famous to sign the labels for bottles produced from one single cask. The first cask they purchased was 1968 Glenlivet, which they bottled and sold long before they could find a famous person. Here is Mortlach distilled on April 13, 2007, aged in refill casks, then finished in first fill sherry butt # 8 for 23 months. The whisky was bottled at natural strength of 51.8% abv on November 22, 2022 with an outrun of 699 bottles.
Nose: strong sherry statement, dark chocolate, espresso, roasted almonds, caramel, toffee, raisins, dried figs, allspice, hints of leather, and a drop of soy sauce.
Palate: slightly oily, toffee, caramel, mocha, cherries, raisins and sultanas, gingerbread, hazelnuts, cinnamon, dash of nutmeg, and sherried oak.
Finish: fairly long, with notes of chocolate, roasted nuts and almonds, raisins, nutmeg, black pepper and oak.
