Mortlach 12 years old (D.2008, B.2020) Douglas Laing’s Old Particular /48,4%/ –
Mortlach has been associated with Johnnie Walker brand for almost a Century; in 1923 the Walkers purchased the distillery and made its malt a major component of their Black Label expression. During most of World War II the distillery was given permission to remain in operation and vintages from the 1940s became true jewels in any whisky collections. Mortlach has been one of Independent Bottlers’ favorite, the whisky presented here was distilled in February 2008 and aged in refill hogshead # DL 13905 for 12 years. Bottled by Douglas Laing & Co. as part of the popular Old Particular range in March 2020 with an outrun of 452 half-liter bottles.
Nose: roasted nuts and almonds, mixed berries marmalade, dried apples, vanilla, caramel, butterscotch, allspice, dash of pepper and oak.
Palate: breakfast cereals, vanilla cream, toffee, nectarines, apple pie sprinkled with cinnamon, chocolate bar, mixed dried herbs and oak.
Finish: fairly long, with notes of vanilla, toffee, milk chocolate, baked apples and pears, dash of nutmeg and oak.
