Penderyn Moscatel Wine Finish (Wales) /60,5%/ – Penderyn Distillery, the first distillery to be opened in Wales in more than a century started producing whisky in 2000. The brand debut in 2004 has been a tremendous success and in 2013/2014 the distillery underwent £1m expansion, which increased its production capacity from 90,000 to 300,000 liters of spirit per annum. In 2020 Penderyn launched two interesting cask strength expression, Tawny Port Single Cask and Moscatel Wine Finish. The latter, after being aged in ex-bourbon barrels was transferred into Portuguese Moscatel sweet wine casks. Only 1456 bottles were produced.
Nose: malted barley, pears, Mirabelle plums, pineapples, mango, coconut milk, green bananas, dried parsley, hints of licorice and trace of moist chalk.
Palate: pears, ripe grapes and peaches, rosehip marmalade, sweetened lime juice, hints of almond butter and nutmeg and a touch of pine resin.
Finish: medium long, with notes of sweet pastries, vanilla, sultanas, white peaches and sugared nuts.
