The Macallan Whisky Maker’s Edition (1824 Collection) /42,8% / – Macallan holds nr 3 rank on the single malt bestsellers list with annual sales little shy of 10 million bottles. While in the 20th Century Macallan was bottled by age and in some cases by vintage, in recent years its range is dominated by no age statement expressions. Whisky Maker’s Edition is part of the 1824 Collection, released in 2009 for Travel Retail market. The whisky distilled in part from barley grown on Macallan Farm was aged in ex-sherry and ex-bourbon casks and is bottled at 75 Imperial proof (42.8% abv).
Nose: fruity and spicy, raisins, figs, oranges, toffee, milk chocolate, honey, traces of pepper and allspice.
Palate: sweet and spicy, caramel, toffee, hazelnuts, traces of tobacco and leather, nutmeg, pepper and candied orange peel.
Finish: pretty long, nutty and spicy, with hints of oak and distant whiff of smoke.
