Kavalan Solist Port Cask / 57,8% / – Kavalan single malt is produced at Yuan Shand Distillery located in Yilan County in Taiwan. The distillery was built in 2005 and launched Kavalan single malt three years later. The name derives from the tribe, which inhabited Yilan in ancient times. Kavalan single malt took whisky world by the storm; it has participated in whisky competitions globally since 2008 and has made tremendous achievements time and time again. The Solist range consisting of single cask whiskies aged in various types of wood and bottled at natural strength was launched in the late 2009. Ex-port cask no. O 090706027A yielded 184 bottles of whisky at 57.8% abv.
Nose: rich port notes, brown sugar, toffee, damson plums, rosehip marmalade, dark chocolate, nutmeg and hints of tobacco.
Palate: blackberries, plums, oranges, raisins, caramel, toffee, mixed nuts and almonds, pepper, cinnamon and dash of cocoa powder.
Finish: medium long, with notes of raisins, prunes, oranges, dark chocolate and pepper.
