Glen Moray Summer Fruits Port Wood Finish, The Cooper’s Choice/58,5%/ – Glen Moray Distillery was founded in 1897 on site of Elgin West Brewery. In 1923 the distillery was acquired by Macdonald & Muir, owners of Glenmorangie and since 2008 it has been owned by La Martiniquaise, the second largest French drink company (after Pernod Ricard). Their leading brands are Label 5 blended whisky and Glen Turner blended malt and Glen Moray malt is a major component of both of them. An expansion completed in 2016 increased distillery capacity to 5.7 million liters of spirit per annum. Here we have pretty unique bottling of Glen Moray from The Vintage Malt Whisky Company, released in 2021 as part of The Cooper’s Choice range. After being aged in American oak barrels the whisky was transferred into ex-Ruby Port cask # 7220 for finishing, then bottled at natural strength of 58.5%. The cask produced 360 bottles.
Nose: malty and fruity, vanilla, toffee, blackberries, blueberries, red currant jam, hints of cinnamon and clove, potpourri and oak.
Palate: blueberries, blackberries, breakfast cereals, butterscotch, vanilla, milk chocolate, hints of candied ginger and cinnamon and subtle oaky bitterness.
Finish: medium long, with notes of vanilla, malted barley, mixed berries marmalde, licorice, allspice and toasted oak.
