Arran The Amarone Cask Finish / 50% – Amarone is a very rich Italian red wine made from the partially dried grapes, mainly Corvina variety. “Amarone” in Italian means “the great bitter”. After spending 8 years in traditional oak casks the whisky was finished in Amarone wine barrels, sourced from an artisan Italian producer. The effect was stunning – perfect marriage of Arran creamy fruitiness and restrained fruit and oak of Amarone. This limited edition was introduced in 2010.

Nose: rich and fruity, cranberries, oranges, rose petals, roasted almonds, caramel, marzipan and bitter chocolate.

Palate: rounded, fruity, cherries, apricots, plums, orange zest, dark chocolate, cinnamon and a touch of oak.

Finish: long and lingering, fruity, slightly dry with notes of oak and dark chocolate in the background.

Arran Madeira Cask Finish / 50% – Arran Distillery has been working with various wood finishes right from the very beginning. After conducting countless number of experiments the owners set on Port, Sauternes and Amarone finishes as part of the core range. The summer of 2016 brought Madeira Cask Finish, called by the distillery ‘guest cask finish’ and not a permanent addition to the range. The whisky was matured in traditional oak casks for unspecified period of time and then transferred to Madeira wine casks ‘sourced from an artisan producer of this fortified wine from the Portuguese island of Madeira’. The whisky was bottled without age statement at 50% abv.

Nose: a visit in a candy store, rich fruitcake, mixed berries marmalade, raisins, vanilla, milk chocolate hints of grass and oak.

Palate: sweet, apples, oranges, bananas, honeydew melon, cherries, vanilla custard, chocolate-coated raisins, dashes of pepper and nutmeg.

Finish: medium long, citrusy with spicy tang.
