Bain’s Cape Mountain Single Grain (South Africa) / 40%Bain’s Cape Mountain is a single grain whisky made from 100% African yellow corn. It is distilled in column still in James Sedgwick Distillery located in Wellington, South Africa. Whisky is initially matured in first fill bourbon casks for three years, then transferred into second set of casks for about two years. Bain’s Cape Mountain was launched in 2009 and scored several awards around the globe. It picked up gold medal at the International Wine & Spirit Competition in 2010, silver medal at the International Spirit Competition and finally won a title of World’s Best Grain Whisky at the World Whisky Awards. The James Sedgwick Distillery was founded in 1886 and is currently part of Distell Group Ltd, who also own the Scottish company Burn Stewart Distillers.

Nose: vanilla, butterscotch, caramel, buttered popcorn, honeydew melon, ripe apples, sugar-roasted nuts, hints of cinnamon and coconut shavings.

Palate: soft, vanilla, crème brûlée, butterscotch, golden syrup, candied orange peel, cinnamon, candied ginger and touch of licorice.

Finish: fairly long, with notes of vanilla, cornflakes, mixed spice and hint of citrus.
