Woodford Reserve Master’s Collection Cherry Wood Smoked Barley/ 45,2% – In the 1800s Woodford County distillery, thanks to Oscar Pepper (owner) and James C. Crow (master distiller) was the site for revolutionary discoveries and innovative techniques in bourbon making. Pepper and Crow conducted countless number of experiments, they developed sour mash method, yeast propagation and maturation of whiskey in new, charred oak barrels. Today Woodford Reserve Distillery pays tribute to the bourbon pioneers with Master’s Collection. The forerunner of the range released in 2005 was Four Grain Bourbon, distilled from mash of corn, rye, wheat and mated barley. The 12th edition brings bourbon distilled from mash of 30% malt content; moreover in the kilning stage of malting process the company used cherry wood.
Nose: gently smoky, caramel, brown sugar, cherry preserve, blackberries, roasted nuts, pine resin and hints of charred oak.
Palate: roasted nuts and almonds, chocolate-coated cherries, smoked plums, caramel, dash of pepper, hints of leather and charred oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of caramel, cocoa powder, cherry jam and oak.
