Bruichladdich 26 years old Signatory Vintage (#16455) (D.1990, B.2017) /56%Bruichladdich Distillery was founded by the Harvey brothers in 1881. The distillery struggled in the late 20th Century but Murray McDavid’s acquisition in 2000 brought it back on the track. Since 2012 Bruichladdich has been owned by the French company Rémy Cointreau and currently produces 1.3 million liters of spirit per annum using almost 90% its capacity. The Signatory Vintage bottling, part of Cask Strength Collection, contains whisky distilled on September 26, 1990 (when Bruichladdich operated under Invergordon Distillers ownership) and aged in a refill sherry butt no. 172. Bottled on July 19, 2017 at natural strength of 56% abv with an outrun of 508 bottles.
 
Nose: distinctive sherry notes, Christmas cake, vanilla custard, chocolate-coated raisins, oranges, nutmeg, cinnamon, hints of seaweed and oak.
 
Palate: pretty sweet, apple pie sprinkled with cinnamon, prunes, raisins, toffee, cappuccino, crème brûlée, salted caramel, licorice and dash of cocoa powder.
 
Finish: long, with lots of sherried oak, vanilla custard, toffee, dried fruit, sea salt and hits of leather.
