Bunnahabhain 2005 Vintage (B.2017), 12 years old The Clan Denny / 48% – Bunnahabhain, the lesser-known Islay distillery, has been producing whisky since 1881. It is currently owned by Burn Stewart Distillers, subsidiary of South African Distell Group. Sales of Bunnahabhain single malt crossed 420 000 bottles mark in 2016 but the brand is still far behind powerful Islanders such as Laphroaig or Lagavulin. The distillery produces over 2 million liters of spirit per annum with big part of that going into Black Bottle blend. Bunnahabhain 2005 Vintage, part of Douglas McGibbon The Clan Denny Selection, comprises whisky aged in refill barrel (no. DMG 12089) for 12 years. Bottled at 48% abv and without chill-filtration in August 2017with an outrun of 289 bottles.
Nose: malty and fruity, apples, pears, limes, butterscotch, vanilla, pine needles, hay, hints of chalk and oak.
Palate: honey, salted caramel, vanilla, jelly beans, shortbread, lemon peel, pears, lemon grass and delicate oaky bitterness.
Finish: medium long and pretty sweet, orange peel, vanilla, dash of sweet spice and oak.
