Tamdhu 1988 The Last Fetish, Moon Import / 46% / – Tamdhu Distillery was founded in 1896 by a consortium of whisky blenders and throughout the 20th Century it was part of The Highland Distilleries Company and supplied malt to various blended whiskies including Cutty Sark, Famous Grouse and J&B, just to name a few. In the 1970s Tamdhu underwent major expansion, the number of stills was increased to 6 and consequently distilling capacity to 4 million liters of spirit per annum. Since 2011 the distillery has been owned by Ian Macleod Distilleries. Tamdhu malt has been bottled by the independents quite often, here we have a great expression, part of Moon Import The Last Fetish range. The whisky distilled in 1988 was aged in second fill ex-sherry cask no. 3729 and bottled in 2011 with an outrun of 768 bottles.
Nose: fruity and fragrant, blooming orchard, plums, peaches, ripe grapes, lemon tart, vanilla, honey, breakfast cereals and touch of oak.
Palate: rich, vanilla custard, honey, buttered toast, lemon curd, sugared almonds, raisins, hints of candied ginger and delicate oakiness.
Finish: fairly long, with notes of honey, milk chocolate, orange and lemon peel and pleasant oaky bitterness.
