Glengoyne 21 years old / 43% / 0,7l – Glengoyne Distillery sits in the village of Dumgoyne, close to the famous Loch Lomond, around 15 miles to the north of Glasgow. It is currently owned by Ian Macleod Distillers and produces close to 1 million liters of spirit per annum. According to the distillery statement “Glengoyne whisky is distilled from air dried barley with no the faintest trace of peat smoke”. The 21 years old expression presented here was bottled after 2012 and contains whisky matured exclusively in ex-sherry casks with an emphasis on first fill barrels.
Nose: very rich, lots of sherried fruit, figs, raisins, raspberries, orange zest, cinnamon, cloves, hints of cocoa, leather and nuts.
Palate: strong sherry statement, fruit cake, mixed berry marmalade, raisins, apples, dark chocolate, honey, cloves, hints of cinnamon and toasted oak.
Finish: long, dried fruit, almonds and oaky dryness.
