Old Pulteney Dunnet Head Ligthouse / 46%/
– Pulteney located in the town of Wick used to be the northernmost distillery on the Scottish mainland (in 2013 the honor went to Wolfburn Distillery). When Inver House took over operations in 1995 almost immediately started marketing Old Pulteney brand as ‘The Maritime Malt’. It turned out to be an excellent move bringing the Old Pulteney brand into top 20 best selling single malts. The Lighthouse Collection was introduced in 2013 as Travel Retail exclusive. Dunnet Head Lighthouse, named after the lighthouse built in 1831 by Robert Stevenson (grandfather of Robert Louis Stevenson) is a vatting of European and American oak casks.
Nose: rich and sweet, toffee, honey, vanilla, milk chocolate, salted caramel, oranges, lemons and hints of wood varnish.
Palate: nicely balanced, delicate sherry notes, caramel, toffee, raisins, fruitcake, dash of nutmeg, distant whiff of sea breeze and touch of leather.
Finish: fairly long, with notes of vanilla, toffee, honey and salted caramel
