The Dalmore 1998 Vintage, 18 years old Vintage Port Collection /44%/ – In 2017 Richard Paterson, Whyte & Mackay master blender and the industry guru, celebrated his 50 years in the Scotch whisky industry. For that occasion the Dalmore Distillery released a limited edition of Vintage Port Collection, which consists of three Tawny Port pipe finished whiskies, Dalmore Vintage 1996, Dalmore Vintage 1998 and Dalmore Vintage 2001. All vintages were initially matured in American oak ex-bourbon barrels and finished in port pipes sourced from renowned port producers W&J Graham’s Vineyard in Douro, Portugal. Here we have whisky distilled in 1998 and aged in ex-bourbon casks before being transferred to top quality Tawny Port pipes (which held port for 20 years prior to whisky aging) for the final two years. Only 3000 bottles were produced.
Nose: rich, orange marmalade, black currants, plums, sultanas, vanilla, toffee, honey, hints of leather and musk.
Palate: baked plantains, damson jam, blueberries, dried apricots, cinnamon buns, toffee treacle, hints of tobacco and leather.
Finish: long and lingering, with notes of fruitcake, toffee treacle, hints of leather and oak.
