Glengoyne 30 years old, B.2017 / 46,8% / – There is no doubt in our mind that Glengoyne Distillery is one of the most beautiful whisky making facilities in Scotland and about 60,000 visitors each year just confirm that statement. It is a small distillery with very attractive product range including whiskies aged from 10 to 25 years as well as NAS Cask Strength expression. Glengoyne 30 years old launched in the fall of 2017 was a notable addition to the range. The whisky was distilled before 1987, in times when the industry experienced terrible downturn and distilleries were drastically cutting production. Glengoyne 30 is a vatting of total of 13 casks – one-third of which were first fill European oak sherry butts and two-thirds refill sherry butts. Bottled at natural strength of 46.8% abv with an outrun of 6000 bottles.
Nose: complex and very intense, prunes, dried figs and apricots, black cherries, dark chocolate, cinnamon, cloves, mixed herbs and hint of tobacco.
Palate: very rich, plums, dark cherries, dates, bitter orange marmalade, black pepper, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, almonds and sherried oak.
Finish: long, candied orange peel, caramel, roasted almonds and nuts, cinnamon and subtle oakiness.
