Benromach Distillery resumed operations in 1998 after being shut down for 15 years. It took Gordon & MacPhail almost five years to refurbish distillery and fire the stills. The 2010 cask strength release includes whisky aged in seven first fill bourbon casks filled in 2001. The whisky was bottled unchill-filtered at natural strength of 59.9% abv. The Benromach barrels are mainly sourced from Jack Daniel’s Distillery.
Nose: fresh and nicely balanced, somewhat malty, lemon grass, limes, vanilla, caramel, oak, Granny Smith apples and apricots.
Palate: firm and complex, breakfast cereal, lemon zest, vanilla fudge, white grapes, red currants and sour apples.
Finish: medium long, vanilla, citrus and toasted oak.
