Bunnahabhain Aonadh 10 years old (D.2011, B.2021) Limited Release /56,2%/ – Bunnahabhain Distillery sits on the Isle of Islay and has been producing whisky since 1881. It is currently owned by Burn Stewart Distillers, subsidiary of South African Distell Group (Heineken acquired Distell assets for €2.2 billion in the fall of 2021). Bunnahabhain Distillery is equipped with two pairs of stills and produces 2.7 million liters of spirit per annum, 35% of which is peated. Bunnahabhain Aonadh 10 years old (“aonadh” translates from the Gaelic to “union”) was launched in September 2021. It is a vatting of port cask finished and fully sherry cask matured whisky bottled at natural strength of 56.2% abv. Only 14,088 bottles were produced.
Nose: sea breeze and autumn leaves, forest berries, vanilla cream, caramel, toffee, cocoa, cinnamon, pipe tobacco, hints of leather and oak.
Palate: mixed berries marmalade, dark chocolate, raisins, roasted nuts, salted caramel, black pepper, a drop of balsamic vinaigrette and oak.
Finish: pretty long, with notes of dark chocolate, black pepper, dark berries, hints of tobacco and oak.
