Glenmorangie 12 years old, Barrel Select Malaga Cask Finish /47,3%/ –
Glenmorangie Distillery is unquestionable pioneer as well as a leader in finishing maturation. The company has been experimenting constantly and each year along with “everyday finishes” such as sherry (Lasanta), port (Quinta Ruban) and sauternes (Nectar D’Òr) releases new and unique expressions. The one presented here certainly falls into “unique” category. The whisky distilled in February 2008 after being aged in ex-bourbon barrels for eight years was transferred into first fill Malaga Dulce casks for additional four years. Malaga is Andalusian sweet fortified wine made from Pedro Ximénez and Moscatel grapes and it has high residual sugar content. Glenmorangie Barrel Select Malaga Cask was bottled at 47.3% abv in August 2020; unfortunately, the press release does not provide information on the number of bottles produced.
