Kilchoman Sanaig / 46% – In 2015 Kilchoman Distillery celebrated 10th Anniversary. A proper commemorate bottling was released but also, the same year Kilchoman announced the launch of Sanaig, a second to Machir Bay continuously available expression. While Machir Bay comprises whisky aged predominantly in ex-bourbon casks, Sanaig has mainly Oloroso sherry cask influence. The whisky is named after a rocky inlet north west of the distillery. Sanaig is a NAS whisky (aged for 4-5 years) bottled without chill-filtration at 46% abv.
Nose: nice combination of peat smoke and fruit (apples, grapes), vanilla, toffee, buttered toast, hints of cinnamon and aniseed and distinctive mineral notes.
Palate: peat again, plums, currants, apples, toffee, dark chocolate, pepper, ginger, candied lemon peel and subtle oaky notes.
Finish: long and initially fruity sweet, then becoming peaty and spicy.
