Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost & Rare (Port Ellen) / 43,8%/ – Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost & Rare Port Ellen is the second in a series of special releases crafted using irreplaceable “ghost” whiskies and other very rare whiskies from the Johnnie Walker Blue Label reserves. At the heart of this limited edition lies the highly sought-after Islay single malt Port Ellen. The distillery, not particularly cherished in its lifetime, closed in 1983 and within about two decades has risen in prominence to become one of the most collectible single malts. The Johnnie Walker expression presented here brings together Port Ellen, rare malts from Mortlach, Dailuaine, Cragganmore, Oban and Blair Athol as well as grain whiskies from another “ghost” distilleries, Carsebridge and Caledonian.
Nose: fruity and moderately smoky, vanilla cream, apples, pears, oranges, mango, salted butter on a toast, oak and dash of fresh herbs.
Palate: peat smoke, vanilla, toffee, salted caramel, sponge cake, oranges, baked apples, white pepper, cloves, hints of tobacco and oak.
Finish: long, fruity, smoky and ashy, extension to the palate.
