Glenglassaugh Peated Port Wood Finish/ 46%Glenglassaugh Distillery was built in 1875 near the town of Portsoy in Eastern Highlands. In its over 140 years long history the distillery experienced long periods of closures, the last notable one between 1986 and 2008 (in 1992 its license was cancelled). Glenglassaugh returned to life in 2008 under ownership of the Scaent Group, in 2013 was acquired by BenRiach Distillery Company and finally three years later by Brown-Forman Corporation, the owners of Jack Daniel’s. In 2017 four new wood finishes were released – two Port finishes (including one peated), PX and Virgin Oak. Glenglassaugh peated presented here was originally aged in first fill ex-bourbon barrels then finished for up to two years in ex-port casks.
Nose: combination of fresh red fruits and peat smoke, damson plums, cherries, raspberries, brown sugar, honey, hints of cinnamon and pepper.
Palate: sweet and smoky, red berries marmalade, raisins, vanilla cream, honey, pepper, dash of cocoa powder and toasted oak.
Finish: fairly long, with notes of ripe berries, honey, oak and whiffs of smoke.
