New whiskey for tasting in Warsaw
Ransom Rye, Barley, Wheat Whiskey, Batch # 001 /46,7% – Ransom Wines & Spirits Co. was founded in Oregon in 1997. At first the distillery made grappa, eau de vie and brandy, in 2007 began producing gin, vodka and whiskey. Ransom Rye, Barley and Wheat is made with malted and un-malted rye, malted and un-malted barley and malted wheat. It is pot-distilled in alembic copper stills, and 24% redistilled from whiskey originally column distilled in MGP Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. It is aged in 60-gallon refill French oak casks, most of which formerly held Pinot Noir, for about 2 years. The whiskey scored silver medal at the 2017 San Francisco World Spirit Competition. The name ‘Ransom’ refers to founder Tad Seestedt’s debt to start business with his life savings and handful of credit cards.
Nose: fruity and herbal, apricots, bananas, raspberry jam, buttered toast, pine needles, geranium, fennel, pepper, vanilla and toffee.
Palate: smooth, forest berries, raisins, baked apples, vanilla, cocoa powder, sweet cereals, bunch of garden herbs and hints of tobacco.
Finish: medium long, with notes of baked apples, mixed berries marmalade, dark chocolate, hazelnuts and herbs.
