New scotch for tasting in Warsaw
GlenDronach 14 years old (D.2002 B.2016) Single Cask #1504 / 55,5% – In the early October 2016 GlenDronach released its batch # 14 of single cask bottlings. This time Billy Walker, the company master distiller, selected twelve casks – eight ex-Pedro Ximénez sherry puncheons and four ex-Oloroso sherry butts. The oldest whisky in the batch, 30 years old, came from the cask filled in 1985, the youngest one, 12 years old, from the cask filled in 2004. The 14 years old expression was distilled on June 6, 2002 and matured in PX sherry puncheon no. 1504. The cask yielded 674 bottles of cask strength whisky (55.5% abv).
Nose: sweet, with fresh sherry notes, milk chocolate, treacle tart, plums, grapes and figs, hints of honey and vanilla, touches of cinnamon and oak.
Palate: fruity sweetness and strong sherry characteristics, baked apples and damson plum jam, cherries, vanilla, sweet cereals, dash of pepper and delicate oakiness.
Finish: medium long with notes of cocoa, stewed fruit and oaky dryness.
GlenDronach 20 years old (D.1995 B.2016) Single Cask #543 / 54,6% – Every year the GlenDronach core range is supplemented with different finishes and single cask bottlings. The details of batch # 14 of the latter were revealed in the early October 2016. This time Billy Walker selected twelve casks – eight ex-Pedro Ximénez sherry puncheons and four ex-Oloroso sherry butts. The oldest whisky in the batch, 30 years old, came from the cask filled in 1985, the youngest one, 12 years old, from the cask filled in 2004. Here we got 20 years old expression, whisky distilled on October 18, 1995 and matured in ex-Pedro Ximénez sherry puncheon no. 534 for 20 years. Bottled at natural strength of 54.6% abv with an outrun of 689 bottles.
Nose: beautifully balanced, milk chocolate, toffee, vanilla, caramel, baked apples, banana bread, strawberry-rhubarb jam, pepper, hints of cinnamon and oak.
Palate: fruity and pretty oaky, plums, pears, gooseberries, baked apples, nougat, cinnamon, hints of cloves, white pepper and lingering oaky bitterness.
Finish: fairly long, combination of orchard fruits, oak and moderate spiciness.
