The Macallan 18 years old Double Cask (2021 Release) /43%/ – The Macallan 18 years old debuted in 1984, when Scotch whisky suffered the worst crisis after the Second World War and producers were going above and beyond to regain the market share. It was a limited edition of 1965 Vintage and in the next couple of decades the 18 years old expressions carried vintage destination. That changed in 2004, with the launch of Fine Oak (combination of ex-sherry and ex-bourbon casks) and Sherry Oak ranges. In 2020 Macallan launched new version of 18 years old expression – Double Cask. The whisky is vatting of Macallans aged in European and American oak casks seasoned with dry sherry Oloroso. While American oak imparts delicate flavors of vanilla, citrus and butterscotch, its European cousin delivers “unmistakable subtle spice of The Macallan”.
