Aberlour Forest Reserve 10 years old Limited Edition /40%/ – Aberlour Distillery sits in the namesake village in Speyside, at the confluence of the rivers Lour and Spey. The name of the village (and the distillery) means ’the mouth of the chattering burn’ in the Gaelic although the full name of the village is Charleston of Aberlour. The first distillery in the village was established in 1825 and ran to 1833, the current one, built by James Fleming started in 1879. It has been owned by Pernod Ricard since 1974 and equipped with two pairs of stills produces 3.8 million liters of spirit per annum.
Aberlour 10 years old has been part of the core range for decades. It used to be a vatting of ex-bourbon barrels (70%) and ex-sherry casks (30%). In 2019 the company introduced Forest Reserve expression finished in French oak casks.
Nose: sweet, malty and fruity, red apples, candied lemon peel, raisins, red berries marmalade, toffee, vanilla and hints of oak.
Palate: fruity with spicy tang, nectarines, honeydew melon, honey-roasted nuts, vanilla, nutmeg, cloves, dash of dried herbs and oak.
Finish: pretty long and warming, with notes of vanilla, honey, mixed nuts, dried fruit, hints of pepper and nutmeg and oak.
