Glenfiddich 19 years old, Age of Discovery, Bourbon Barrel /40%/ – The second release in the Age of Discovery Series, Bourbon Cask Reserve, is a tribute to the rivers of the United States.
About 90% of Scotch whisky is being aged in ex-bourbon barrels and in the past the barrels were transported on barges to the coast, then shipped to whisky producers in Scotland. Needless to say Bourbon Cask Reserve was aged solely in ex-bourbon casks for long 19 years. It was launched in the late 2012 as a part of Travel Retail range and the following year scored bronze medal at the World Whisky Awards.
Nose: lots of vanilla and toffee followed with deep citrusy notes, orange zest, grapefruit, apples, toasted bread and oak tannins.
Palate: initial caramel and vanilla sweetness is soon balanced with oaky dryness, hints of leather and tobacco and spicy notes of nutmeg and cardamom.
Finish: long, sweet and spicy with delicate oaky dryness.
