Auchentoshan Cooper’s Reserve, 14 years old / 46% / –
Auchentoshan Distillery was founded in 1823 on the outskirts of the city of Glasgow. In 1984 Morrison Bowmore Ltd purchased the distillery; 10 years later Morrison Bowmore was taken over by the Japanese conglomerate Suntory. Within last 10 years sales of Auchentoshan single malt rose trifold; currently they exceed a million bottles a year. Cooper’s Reserve launched in 2012 is part of the distillery Travel Retail range; the whisky was aged for 14 years in ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry casks.
Nose: strong sherry statement, raisins, figs, prunes, some orange zest, almonds and spice.
Palate: rich and creamy, prunes, raisins, caramelized orange peel, crème brûlée, honey-dipped almonds and sherried oak.
Finish: long and warming, nutty, caramel and oak.
